It seems that the old TV aerial antenna is obsolete. Once you could find these dotting the skyline in almost every town and city. Today, they’re few and far between. Most people today choose to get their TV programming from a satellite dish or a cable connection. However, the question of “which is better for my needs” still exists for many consumers. Should you choose cable or should you opt for satellite TV programming?
Both cable and satellite offer more channels than are available through an air-to-ground connection. However, cable still operates largely on analog signal. The looming changeover (February of 2009), has forced cable companies to finally adopt more advanced technology, but this hasn’t truly proved a blessing for cable customers. Cable companies are simply charging their customers more for the benefit of an all-digital picture, something that the satellite providers would never do (their picture has always been all-digital). This has lead to some anxious (and angry!) feelings in the consumer world.

HD (high definition) is one of the buzzwords of the modern TV industry. Chances are that you have heard the word, even if you don’t truly understand how the technology works. If you don’t understand how HD TV works, don’t feel alone; there are plenty of people who have no idea what’s behind the technology, why HD offers a better picture, or even what they need to access this innovative technology. Here, you’ll find a brief guide to helping you understand why HD is the best option for your needs and what you need to access it.
How Does It Work?
The difference between HD TV and SD (standard definition) TV begins long before the picture reaches your receiver. In order to record TV programming in HD format, it must first be filmed on special cameras. Of course, programs that were not filmed in HD can be converted (and many are) through a special production process that enhances the images. Of course, these are never quite as clear as programs filmed in HD to begin with.
The recording process ensures that there are more lines per image, meaning that there are more pixels used to create the image. This results in an image with much better resolution, rivaling what you can see with your own eye. Once the program has been recorded, it is sent out through the airwaves, just the same as any other satellite TV signal.

Most people that own a Sky box will know that the Sky remote control operates the basic functions of their TV, what happens though if the remote stops operating the TV but still operates the Sky digibox… is it time to get a new one?
Well to be honest, in some cases yes a replacement remote is required, but more often than not all you need to do is re-enter the correct Sky remote code to operate your particular brand of TV, this would have originally been done by the Sky engineer when he/she installed the system.
Early remotes manufactured for Sky were done so with a preset code already programmed to operate Sony TVs, later models were manufactured to work straight out the box on a Philips TV. This is the same no matter if it is a standard Sky remote for the Sky box, a Sky plus remote for the Sky plus box or the Sky HD remote for the HD box.
So, to make things simple without going in to whether or not your remote is an early or late version the best thing to do is re-enter the correct code for your TV, even if it\’s a Sony or Philips.
Don\’t forget it is only the basic functions of the TV the remote will operate, this includes functions such as volume control, putting the TV in to standby and cycling through the AV channels of the TV by pressing the \”Help\” button on the remote.
